Purpose of role

The role has become available due to rapid organic and acquisitional growth of the GVC Group.  The role will focus on corporate/commercial matters within the GVC Group.  This will include working with the Retail Estate and Digital brands.

Reporting to the Director of Legal, the Commercial Legal Counsel will play a pivotal role in joining together the legal functions across the Group.

Measures of success in the role will include:

· Enabling the business to optimise its commercial capacity with various suppliers in order to maximise their commercial value;

· Pragmatic and commercially-focused management of external legal advisors with a view to minimising cost;

· Have the gravitas to work alongside senior stakeholders;

· Capability to handle a broad variety of work.

 

Key anticipated challenges will include:

Achieving a uniform approach to the legal operation of the GVC Retail and Digital brands.

Budget as appropriate for seeking advice from external counsel as required.

 

People Management 

 

As the role develops, there may be the opportunity to manage junior lawyer(s)/paralegal(s) within the in-house function.

Primary Responsibilities 

 

Reporting to the Director of Legal in Gibraltar duties will be varied but include;

Commercial work

·         Drafting and negotiating commercial contracts;

·         Reviewing customer facing terms and conditions across the GVC Digital brand portfolio to create a higher level of consistency;

·         Advising on a range of legal matters from marketing promotions and advertisements to trademarks and copyright, IP matters and Data Protection governance for the Group;

·         Handling sponsorship and collaboration agreements;

·         Assisting the Compliance and Regulatory functions with legal issues relating to the UK and international betting/gaming laws as well as licensing;

·         Assisting with internal stakeholders with queries on potential disputes, complaints, referrals to the relevant Regulator, as required;

·         Advising and assisting in responding to customer complaints and external dispute resolution;

·         Ad-hoc projects and business development opportunities as they arise.

External Counsel

 

·      Making recommendations for the engagement of external counsel when required by the commercial needs of the business; and managing them, including as to ongoing instruction, updates, fees, billing etc;

·      Co-ordinating and monitoring external legal advisors in multiple jurisdictions where the business;

·      Preparing internal legal advice based on external.

 

Training & Development

Researching and advising on developments in the law, regulation and practices. Creating and maintaining legal precedents and templates and assisting with the development of relevant training

Qualifications

Knowledge/skills/experience

Essential


Experience: 

·         Be a qualified solicitor or barrister (most likely with 1-5 years PQE);

·         Ambitious, motivated and with a team-player approach to work;

·         Experience in the gaming industry desirable, especially in the digital channel.
