About The Role

With the expansion of the global GVC privacy team and following the development of our policy framework, we are looking for a Data Retention Manager to join our team to lead efforts on the implementation of a Group-wide Data Retention policy.

The implementation of the policy requires someone to project manage the initial deletion exercise and then manage ongoing adherence to the retention policy throughout the organisation. We are therefore looking for someone who has at least 5 years’ experience in information and record management, with a focus on the data retention life-cycle management.

This person will also be responsible for driving a culture of awareness around data retention and data minimisation and be able to manage stakeholders at all levels of seniority, including those who will be assigned as dedicated data owners.

This role may involve frequent international travel to other GVC offices.

 

Key Responsibilities 

Project Management

  • Align with the privacy, information security and technology teams on a strategy and project plan to identify:
    • High risk areas to prioritize.
    • Timeline for planned deletion activities.
    • Approach to digital and physical record retention.
    • Tooling to be assist with identifying data and deletion.
    • Ongoing retention adherence.
  • Managing stakeholders and dedicated resource to assist with the implementation and maintenance of the policy.
  • Producing regular reports to both the Chief Privacy Officer and Chief Information Security Officer.
 

Record and Information Lifecycle Management 

  • Providing solutions to records and information management for both electronic and paper records.
  • Actively involved in managing records throughout their lifecycle.
  • Providing advice and supporting the development and implementation of related policies and guidance.
  • Partnering with the Information Security team to monitor and audit the implementation of the policy to ensure adherence throughout the organization.
  • Assist with monitoring the implementation of the Data Classification requirements across the estate.
  • Regularly reviewing and updating the group-wide and other related policies to reflect any changes to international retention laws and regulations or new markets we enter.
 

Promoting a date minimisation culture 

  • Champion a culture of good information management across the organization, e.g. through a dedicated group of data retention champions.
  • Designing training programmes, based on the retention policy and initiatives, to the business, data owners and those responsible for performing the deletion exercises (both digital and paper records).
  • Partnering with the comms team to produce regular communications to the business.
  • Producing regular guidance materials tailored to different functions.
 

Key Requirements

  • Essential
    • Understanding of Data Structures – Databases, Unstructured data, Orphaned Data
    • Solid work approach and has the capacity to fulfil responsibilities with limited supervision whilst maintaining effective communications with the Chief Privacy Officer.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills to liaise with senior stakeholders across the organization.
    • Process orientated and excellent attention to detail.
    • High degree of discretion and confidentiality in handling often sensitive team and business issues.
    • Multi-tasker and proactive self-starter.
    • 5 years’+ records management experience.
    • Experience as a Project Manager or equivalent
    • Degree-level qualified, such as Privacy or IT/Comms degree with a compliance add on.
    • Previous experience and knowledge of data retention laws.
    • Understanding data protection laws, such as the General Data Protection Regulation.

Desired

    • Sports Betting & Gaming experience.
    • Knowledge of international Data Privacy legislation.
    • Professional project management or privacy qualifications e.g. IAPP CIPM or CIPP/E
