About The Role

Role Purpose and Key Responsibilities:

The role has two parts to the responsibilities:

SRE: Identification & resolution of risks within GVC technical estate

As the Site Reliability Engineer will also be responsible for identification and resolution of risks within the GVC technical estate.

This includes:

  • Identifying risks both held within individual system component areas, and the integration process between those components;
  • the management of risks within differing areas of direct ownership, and;
  • tracking of risks at a detailed level, with identification and delivery key actions pertaining to the resolution of the risks.

The role holder will manage the tooling related to Reliability and Performance, including our proactive monitoring and alerting systems. This will be centred around improvement of existing systems, as well as identification and implementation of any new tooling mechanisms.  The Site Reliability Engineer will play an active role in working with our Product Marketing function, to ensure any requirements on our technical estate are fully considered for Performance and Reliability impact, including (but not limited to) working with our Tracking & Analytics partners.  The Individual will also be responsible for the documentation of analysis in coherent and communicable format to a range of technical, business and executive audiences.

Major incident Triaging, investigating and resolution of production Betting systems

The role will also be responsible for triaging major production incidents on an urgent basis.

This includes:

  • Being available during shift hours to triage any major production issues
  • Working with internal and external teams to identify the issue and resolve the problem
  • Working with internal and external teams to understand root cause and putting solutions in place to stop repeat of the issue

The role holder will have in-depth hands-on technical skills on Betting, Trading, Single Page Application to be able to investigate and resolve issues working with various technical teams. The role will require working knowledge of digital applications including cloud platforms, on premises hardware & networking.

The Individual will work with:

  • The Delivery and Performance functions within GVC to ensure the platform is fully ready for usage profiles, particularly during key events. 
  • The GVC Architectural team to ensure consideration for Reliability and Performance is a fundamental part of our Solution Design processes and the documentation/communication of those considerations.
  • The Infrastructure and Networks functions to ensure that our technology choices around system/environment/connectivity design are centred on Reliability and Performance. Driving and implement best practices within our development teams to reduce the likelihood of risks reaching our Production environments.
  • The Business Analysis and Product teams to ensure that this ethos is carried through in our ideation and user story formation, with Reliability & Performance KPIs being clearly communicated to our development teams & stakeholders

Qualifications and Educational Requirements:

  • Must have a degree in computer science or equivalent

Specialist skills and experience required:

  • Must have 7+ years of experience in similar role
  • Previous experience of supporting a highly available digital platforms including hands-on experience
  • Ideally the candidate will have experience of working with:
  • Previous experience of Reliability Engineering at an Analytical & Technical level
  • Previous experience of highly-transactional systems within the realm of Reliability and Performance
  • Previous experience of front-end solution delivery (websites/native applications/backend systems are all applicable)
  • Experience of Risk Management and Resolution Delivery
  • Experience of the configuration and on-going management of Monitoring and Alerting tools
  • Experience of working within an Agile delivery model
  • Experience of working with multi-functional and multi-generational hardware and software estates
  • Previous experience within a Service Operations function
  • Experience with multi-vendor businesses and offshore development functions
  • Experience of the SAFe delivery model
  • Experience within a Solution Architecture function
