Fantastic news emerged from the Jumeriah Hotel, London, on Monday as Lorraine Archibald was announced Racing Post/SIS Betting Shop Manager of the Year 2018.
Lorraine, from Ladbrokes’ Newtownards shop in Northern Ireland, came out on top in the eight-person final, which also included our own Amran Ul-Haque, Sascha Drape and Michael Strain, in front of a star-studded crowd.
Having been through a rigorous process to make it to this stage, the finalists had one final opportunity to impress the judging panel accompanied by one of their colleagues. Scott Beattie joined Lorraine for the final hurdle and after clearing it she becomes the first person from Northern Ireland to win the overall award.
Lorraine started her career in the industry 18 years ago with Eastwoods before Ladbrokes acquired that business and said: ‘I truly love my job, I’m a team player but I’m always ready to voice my opinion if there’s something I feel strongly about. My customers are at the heart of everything I do.”
Brough Scott, chairman of the judging panel, said: "Lorraine fills the room with warmth and integrity at a time when the business needs these two qualities like never before.”
Former Arsenal and England footballer Ray Parlour presented Lorraine with her award. As well as winning a VIP trip to Singapore for one of the major race meetings next year, Lorraine and her team will also be treated to a day at Ascot next month. The champion will then be present at several key racing and betting occasions throughout 2019.
