Life + Work in Sofia
There’s a diverse and exotic feel to Sofia, there’s always something going on. There’s theatre, music, art and architecture, and great restaurants and bars. And the place is sports mad, too!
Our offices in Expo 2000 Office Park is home to the largest section of our Poker, Casino and Cashcade Customer Service teams, our second line Customer Service Operations, and our Cashcade Risk Operations team.
It is also a main location for our Development Studios team who are in charge of creating the next generation of betting products. Our award-winning brand InterTrader chose Sofia for its operations, and a big part of the Bookmaking division is settled here as well.
If you visit a Bulgarian friend or colleague in their home, make sure to take flowers for the host, and wine or chocolates, and if they have children, take them a small present. Bulgarian hosts are known for their generosity and you’ll be very well fed.
An empty glass is unacceptable, so drink slowly and take small sips if you can’t take the pace! Bulgarian women are fond of astrology and it’s a familiar topic of conversation when meeting someone for the first time.
Even if you’re sceptical, join in and listen to what they have to say about the characteristics of your star sign. You’re sure to learn something!
The National Palace of Culture, known as the NDK, is home to all kinds of film screenings, music and events across its 15 venue halls.
Rock, blues and jazz music is well catered for at venues such as Swingin’Hall and Mixtape 5 while the National Opera House has been offering classical, opera and ballet performances for over fifty years.
Cinema goers can enjoy retro screenings at Euro Cinema in the city centre, and Dom Na Kinoto shows Bulgarian, independent and vintage foreign films. There’s bars and restaurants for every taste, some of which such as the well-loved DaDa Cultural Bar also host art events, live music and poetry readings. It all happens in Sofia!
Signs of life date back as early as 1st millennium BCE. Inhabited by Thracian's and later incorporated into the Roman Empire, after the 6th century AD, Sofia became home to Slavs, ruled by the Byzantium before becoming part of the Bulgarian kingdom.
